About Buxoce

Bringing greenhouse-grown produce from our farms directly to your doorstep across London since 2018

Buxoce started in 2018 when three horticulture graduates decided to address a growing concern in London: the disconnect between consumers and the origin of their produce. We established our first greenhouse facility in the outskirts of the city, covering 2 hectares dedicated to growing vegetables and fruits using sustainable methods.

Our founders, having studied controlled environment agriculture at the Royal Horticultural Society, recognized that greenhouse cultivation allows for year-round production while reducing water usage by 70% compared to traditional farming. This approach also eliminates the need for long-distance transportation, ensuring that produce reaches customers within 24 hours of harvest.

Today, we operate three greenhouse facilities totaling 8 hectares. Each facility specializes in different crops: one focuses on leafy greens and herbs, another on tomatoes and peppers, and the third on cucumbers and seasonal fruits. Our team includes 12 trained horticulturists who monitor growing conditions daily, adjusting temperature, humidity, and nutrient levels to optimize plant health.

We currently serve over 3,500 households across London, from Islington to Camden, Hackney to Westminster. Our delivery fleet consists of 8 electric vehicles, reducing our carbon footprint while maintaining punctual service. Orders placed before 2 PM are delivered the following day between 7 AM and 9 AM, ensuring produce arrives fresh for breakfast preparation.

The greenhouse environment provides several advantages. We control pest management through biological methods, introducing beneficial insects rather than using chemical pesticides. Our closed-loop irrigation system recycles 95% of water used. Temperature regulation allows us to grow Mediterranean vegetables like aubergines and courgettes even during British winters.

Each week, we harvest approximately 4 tonnes of produce. Our most requested items include heritage tomatoes (8 varieties), mixed salad leaves, English cucumbers, and bell peppers in five colors. We also grow specialty items like baby courgettes, rainbow chard, and purple sprouting broccoli based on seasonal availability.

Our Mission

We provide London residents with access to locally grown produce that maintains nutritional value through minimal time between harvest and consumption. By operating greenhouses within 30 miles of the city center, we reduce transportation emissions by 80% compared to imported alternatives.

Our commitment extends to transparency. Customers receive information about which greenhouse their produce came from, the harvest date, and the specific growing methods used. This traceability builds trust and allows people to make informed decisions about their food sources.

What Guides Us

🌱

Sustainable Growing

We use 70% less water than field farming through drip irrigation and condensation recovery. Our greenhouses are heated using renewable energy sources, and we compost all plant waste to create growing medium for the next season.

🚚

Local Distribution

All deliveries occur within London using electric vehicles. We complete routes efficiently to minimize energy consumption, and our packaging consists of returnable crates rather than single-use materials. Customers return crates during their next delivery.

📋

Complete Transparency

Every delivery includes documentation showing the harvest date, greenhouse location, and growing specifications. Our website features live updates from our facilities, including current crops and expected harvest dates for upcoming weeks.
